National Advocacy

Two recent initiatives that your Chapter Advocacy Committee has focused on are H.R. 3772 and USP 825.

H.R .3772:   On July 16, Rep. Scott Peters (CA-52) and Rep. Bobby Rush (IL-01), along with Rep. George Holding (NC-02), introduced the bipartisan Medicare Diagnostic Radiopharmaceutical Payment Equity Act of 2019 (HR 3772). The bill would expand CMS payments to hospital for high cost radiopharmaceuticals such as I-123 Ioflupane, Ga-68 Dotatate, and the PET radiopharmaceuticals used in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease. https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/3772

USP 825:  On June 1, the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) published General Chapter <825>: Radiopharmaceuticals – Preparation, Compounding, Dispensing, and Repackaging. This General Chapter provides uniform minimum standards for the preparation, compounding, dispensing, and repackaging of sterile and non-sterile radiopharmaceuticals for humans and animals that occur as part of state-licensed activities. Although it was broadly appealed it was denied. USP has encouraged the appellant to submit more specific requests. Due to the appeals, USP announced <825> and its sister chapters <795> and <797> would be postponed enactment until further notice.
